Dr. Sanford, MD
Dr. Elizabeth Sanford received her BA in Spanish from Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 1977. In 1982, she was awarded her MD from the University of Texas in Galveston. Doctor Sanford has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology for over 25 years. She is well known in the community as a compassionate physician who truly loves her work. She is a diplomate of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and has frequently served as chair of St. Joseph Hospital’s Committee of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Sanford’s vision of childbirth as a normal and treasured event in the life of a family led her to expand her practice to include midwives, and, with their help, to found The Birthing Inn--the only freestanding childbirth center in Tacoma.

Dr. Carol Sarner, MD
Dr. Carol Sarner received her MD from the University of California in 1989. She completed her specialty training in obstetrics and gynecology in 1993, and has been involved in both group and private practice since then. She is a diplomate of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Looking for a group that truly provides compassionate care for women, Dr. Sarner joined Pearl Place Women’s Care in 2005.
Dr. Sarner divides her time between work with women and work with animals. She is heavily involved in Rocket Dog Rescue and has been instrumental in saving many dogs that would have otherwise been euthanized.
